Ernie Simon Head Coach

Fencing Achievements: 

8 times Australian National Champion

3 times National Collegiate Champion (USA, 1978, 1980, 1981) Commonwealth

Senior: Coached 5 Senior National Champions. 

Assistant Coach, World Championship Budapest/Hungary(1991)

Coached Olympic Representatives for the Los Angeles (1984), Seoul (1988) and Barcelona Games (1992). 

Veterans: Coached Commonwealth Veterans Foil gold-medallist Dr.Zoltan Vilagosh (Sydney 2003).

Accredited in all three weapons (Foil, Epee, Sabre) with the Australian Sports Commission, Ernie oversees all aspects of coaching at the club:

Coaches the beginners and intermediates.

Gives individual lessons in the three weapons

 

Ben Curruthers

Ben has fenced for over 20 years.

3 times National Champion Senior.

5 times National Champion Under 20 Year olds.

Gives individual lessons in foil.

Accredited Level 1 in Australia.

Prevost D’Arme in Foil (Master of Arms) Paris France.

Maitre d”Arme CNFE (Centre National de Formation a l’Escrime) in Paris France.

Qualified to coach in the three weapons.

 

Michael Takagi 

Gives individual lessons in Sabre.

Runs Sabre classes for beginners and advance students.

Currently undergoing accreditation in sabre.

Patrick Lepicier

Patrick has fenced for the past 20 years and has been trained to coach by Head Coach Ernie Simon.

Runs the beginner classes          .

Runs Foil classes for beginners and intermediate students.

Runs the warm-up training sessions.

Gives individual lessons in foil to children

Fencing Championships Silver Medallist (Glasgow 1978) 

Represented Australia in 2 Olympics (Munich 1972,

Montreal 1976)

Represented Australia in 8 World Championships

Represented Australia at Commonwealth Games

Award:

 Inducted into the Wayne State University – Athletics Hall of Fame (2004)

Coaching Achievements:

Junior: Coached many junior level fencers to State and National Champions in all age groups U/12, U/15, U/17, U/20 in Boys and Girls.

In 1991 Ernie coached Australia’s only World Champion, Seamus Robinson in the U/17 World Championships in Foggia/Italy.

In 1993 Ernie coached Charlotte Walker, gold-medallist in a U/20  “A” grade tournament in Poland. (These are the only 2 occasions where Australian Juniors have won Major International Championships)

Vicky Wilks

Vicky has fenced for 20 years, firstly as a pent-athlete at which she became an Australian and world class Champion. She now devotes her passion into fencing Epee.

Currently undergoing coaching accreditation Epee and Foil.

 

Graham Scott

Graham has been a top Australian fencer in Foil, Epee and Sabre for the past 30 years.

Co-runs the Musketeer classes with Mauricio.

Manages and programs the fencing development of the Musketeers.

Gives individual lessons to children.

Mauricio Panizo

Mauricio was a top fencer in his native country of Peru and has joined us and successfully integrated our team of coaches.                                            

Runs the Musketeer classes with Graham Scott.     

Runs the Cadet squad.                                       

Gives individual lessons in Foil.
