Coaches Code of Conduct: 

All fencing coaches must ensure that every individual,  particularly all young people in their care are respected as individuals and treated with dignity at all times. It is every fencing coaches duty first and foremost to instill a life-long passion for movement and activity in general, regardless of the individual's age, ability, skill level or competition readiness. Fencing coaches are not to use short-cuts in the development of the individuals fencing skills for the purpose of the coaches personal advancement. It must be remembered that foundation skills take years to develop and are the backbone of every great fencer. The long-term correct development of fencing skills takes priority above short term gains for every fencer and every coach. Fencing coaches are not to coerce individual's in taking part in camps, competitions, squad training, etc  - if it serves no other purpose than "making up numbers" and the promotion of the fencing coach himself. All fencing coaches are bound by MFC's high standard of ethics.

  1. All relationships should be based on respect, honesty and openness. 
  2. MFC's coaches first and foremost are to instill an ongoing love and passion for movement, activity in general regardless of the fencers age, skill level, ability or competition readiness.
  3. Coaches are prohibited to abuse the coaches position of power or trust in any way.  
  4. Coaches should promote good behavior within the rules of Fencing. 
  5. Coaches should recognize the personal development of young fencers takes priority even over the development of their performance.

  6. Coaches should encourage young fencers to be responsible for their own behavior and performance.
  7. Coaches should have an ongoing commitment to their own training and work with others (i.e. Head Coach, sports psychologist, parents and other coaches) to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all fencers in order that they can develop both within the fencing environment, as well as outside.
  8. MFC's  coaches should work within their own competencies and qualifications.
  9. Coaches should strive to be positive role models at all times
  10. Coaches are working under MFC's Head Coach guidance, expertise and reputation, conforming to the highest standards of personal behavior and conforming the the teaching philosophies and methods of Melbourne Fencing Centre.
     
  11. MFC's coaches have a responsibility to develop - in partnership with the Head Coach, parents and fencers - a clear expectation, both on and off the piste.
  12. Coaches have a responsibility to clarify he fencers expectation of the coach. 
  13. Coaches are prohibited to embarres, humiliate or undermine any individual or cause them to lose self esteem.
  14. Coaches are prohibited to allow allegations made by a child, parent or fencer to go unchallenged, unrecorded or not acted upon.
  15. Coaches are only to vacate the fencing venue until safe departure of all the fencers is guaranteed.
